The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today said the central government has the authority and responsibility to improve the city’s electoral system, adding that it will render its full co-operation to the central government. The Hong Kong SAR Government made the statement in response to the deliberation by the National People's Congress of a draft decision on improving the city's electoral system. The Hong Kong SAR Government said to ensure the steadfast and successful implementation of "one country, two systems", Hong Kong must always adhere to the principle of "patriots governing Hong Kong". The principle is fundamental to national sovereignty, security, development interests, as well as the long-term prosperity of Hong Kong, it added. The Department of Health today announced that a staff member of its Travel Health Centre (Kowloon) at Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices has tested positive for COVID-19.
The clinic was closed immediately for thorough cleaning and disinfection, and will remain closed for 14 days.
Clients affected by the closure will be contacted by staff to reschedule their service appointments.
The Cremation Permit Office (Kowloon) connected to the centre was also closed immediately and will remain closed for three days.
The staff member is a medical and health officer. He last performed his duties on the morning of January 23. His body temperature was normal when undergoing temperature screening at work.
He wore a surgical mask while performing duties and properly maintained social distancing.
The officer felt unwell later in the day on January 23 and his deep throat saliva sample was collected for testing the same day. The result came back positive today.
He had come into contact with one of today's confirmed cases while seeking treatment on January 18.
Arrangements have been made for the officer's colleagues to work from home and they will be tested for COVID-19.
The department reminded its staff to maintain personal hygiene and be vigilant at all times.
