Drivers given online option for permits

Members of the public can now apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP) through an online service launched today by the Transport Department.   Users of “iAM Smart+” or eligible applicants holding a valid personal digital certificate may apply online via the GovHK website and receive their IDP by post, without the need to visit a licensing office in person.   If the submitted documents and photograph are in order, the department will normally send successful applicants their IDP by registered post within 10 working days of the online application being made.   The department reminded those who plan to drive outside of Hong Kong to allow sufficient time for the IDP applications to be processed.   Citizens may continue to submit IDP applications by visiting licensing offices in person. Caspar Tsui inspects Victoria Park

Secretary for Home Affairs Caspar Tsui today visited Victoria Park in Causeway Bay to inspect the preparations for the reopening of some outdoor leisure facilities.   Accompanied by Director of Leisure & Cultural Services Vincent Liu, Mr Tsui was briefed on the Leisure & Cultural Services Department's preparatory work and special measures.   These include limiting the number of players permitted to stay in the courts or lanes, closure of spectator stands, placing disinfectant carpets, provision of alcohol-based handrub and stepping up cleaning measures at the venues.   The department also arranged staff at relevant venues to undergo COVID-19 nucleic acid tests once every 14 days to safeguard staff and public health.   Mr Tsui reminded people who exercise in the reopened outdoor leisure facilities to take note of social distancing. The number of people in group gatherings should not be more than as stipulated by the law and they must wear a mask before and after exercise.   They are also required to scan the LeaveHomeSafe QR code or register their name, contact number and the date and time of the visit before being allowed to enter those sports premises, he added.   Mr Tsui also thanked staff for sparing no effort in preparing outdoor leisure facilities for use by the public as soon as possible.   Outdoor leisure facilities to be reopened tomorrow include running tracks in sports grounds (for jogging only), tennis courts, bowling greens, gateball courts, Ngau Chi Wan Park Archery Range, Shek O Obstacle Golf Course, cycling facilities, outdoor badminton courts, outdoor table tennis tables, and the sports climbing walls, archery range, golf driving range and practice greens at Tuen Mun Recreation & Sports Centre.   People are urged to download and install the LeaveHomeSafe mobile app in advance to avoid a delay in their visits. Those who opt for registering their personal information at the venue are reminded to arrive earlier as a longer time is required for such registration.

124 COVID-19 cases reported

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 124 additional COVID-19 cases. More cases were detected in Kwai Chung Estate. There are also more than 70 preliminary positive cases.   Among the newly reported cases, 33 are related to Kwai Chung Estate, bringing the total number of positive and preliminary positive cases in the estate to 276.   One more positive case was found after an earlier confirmed case occurred at Glory Court, Tsuen Wan Garden, both of them live in units 5 but on two different floors. The centre has co-ordinated with related government departments and conducted an inspection today.    It was preliminarily considered that vertical transmission of virus via pipes is involved.   The centre will issue quarantine orders to residents of unit 5 on all floors of the building who resided there during the incubation period of the relevant cases and transfer them to a quarantine facility.   As it is possible that virus might be ejected from the open
