Chief Executive John Lee cheered on the Hong Kong athletes taking part in various events at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou today. Mr Lee went to games venues to watch events in which Hong Kong athletes were competing, including swimming, wushu and fencing, and extended his warmest congratulations to the athletes who won medals. Noting that having the games in their own country is of great importance to Hong Kong athletes, Mr Lee said he was pleased to have the opportunity to watch Hong Kong competitors strive for excellence and demonstrate extraordinary capabilities. The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 16 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 13 are locally transmitted.
Among the local cases, five have unknown sources of infection.
One of the unlinked cases involves a worker at the Hong Kong International Airport third runway construction site, who was working on the automated people mover and baggage handling system tunnels on Airport Island.
The more than 30 people who work with the patient will be placed under quarantine, while several hundred other workers on the same project will undergo compulsory testing.
Three other unlinked cases involve a real estate agent working in North Point, a computer programmer working in Tsim Sha Tsui and a worker at Kings Wing Plaza in Sha Tin. The remaining unlinked patient is retired.
