About 1,091,100 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to the public, with about 719,900 people receiving their first dose and about 371,200 people getting their second dose. Among those given the first dose of vaccines, about 375,600 people have received the Sinovac jab and about 344,300 people have received the BioNTech one. For the second dose, about 223,100 people have received the Sinovac vaccine, while about 148,100 people have been administered the BioNTech jab. About 3,600 people received their first dose of the Sinovac vaccine under the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme today. Among them, about 3,200 people received the jab at eight community vaccination centres (CVCs), while about 400 were inoculated at private doctors and clinics participating in the programme. Around 10,400 people received their second dose of the Sinovac vaccine today, including about 9,800 people vaccinated at CVCs and about 600 people through private doctors and clinics.
The Expert Committee on Clinical Events Assessment Following COVID-19 Immunisation assessed three death cases with history of vaccination during its meeting today.
As of April 4, the Department of Health received a total of 15 death reports with history of COVID-19 immunisation from the Hospital Authority.
The cases involve 11 men and four women aged between 55 and 80. Existing information indicates that most of these cases died of cardiovascular diseases.
Three of the cases were assessed in today's meeting.
The first case involves a 67-year-old man who passed away on March 13. The full autopsy report indicated that the patient died of acute myocardial infarction due to coronary atherosclerosis, while other investigations did not reveal possible immunological reactions due to a vaccine.
The committee considered that there was no causal relationship between the deceased's outcome and COVID-19 vaccination.
The second case involves a 68-year-old woman with hypertension, hypothyroidism and lipid disorder who passed away on March 29 and received a dose of CoronaVac 26 days before her death.
Based on the preliminary autopsy findings of acute myocardial infarction, the committee considered that the deceased's outcome was not directly associated with COVID-19 vaccination.
The last case involves a 62-year-old man with a history of newly diagnosed hypertension who passed away on April 2 and received a dose of CoronaVac 25 days prior to his death. The causality assessment will be conducted when preliminary autopsy findings are available.
