HK pivotal in bay area I&T drive

I am very pleased to attend today's ceremony to commend 50 outstanding students, who are the recipients of the 2020 and 2021 Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award. My heartfelt congratulations to all of them.   I know that they come from five Hong Kong universities, and they are pursuing a great variety of degrees related to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) as well as environmental management, physiotherapy, fashion and textiles. Whatever their future endeavours, I am confident that they will enjoy rewarding careers and lives, while helping Hong Kong take its place as an international hub for innovation and technology (I&T).   As I am sure we all agree, talent is crucially important to our achieving the objective of developing an international innovation and technology hub. 2.05m vaccine jabs administered

About 2,050,300 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to the public, with about 1,213,100 people receiving their first dose and about 837,100 getting their second dose.   Among those given the first dose of vaccines, about 521,900 people have received the Sinovac jab and about 691,200 people have received the BioNTech one.   For the second dose, about 383,600 people have received the Sinovac vaccine, while about 453,600 people have been administered the BioNTech jab.   About 4,000 people received their first dose of the Sinovac vaccine and around 4,700 people received their second dose under the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme today.    For the BioNTech vaccine, about 6,600 people received their first dose at community vaccination centres (CVCs) and about 8,200 people received their second dose.   The overall percentage of people who received the Sinovac vaccine at CVCs is about 96%, while for the BioNTech one it is about 97%.   As of 8pm, about 4,400 people booked their first and second doses of the Sinovac vaccine online, while about 8,500 reserved their first and second doses of the BioNTech jab.   As of midnight, seven people were sent to hospitals.
