Members of the public can now apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP) through an online service launched today by the Transport Department. Users of “iAM Smart+” or eligible applicants holding a valid personal digital certificate may apply online via the GovHK website and receive their IDP by post, without the need to visit a licensing office in person. If the submitted documents and photograph are in order, the department will normally send successful applicants their IDP by registered post within 10 working days of the online application being made. The department reminded those who plan to drive outside of Hong Kong to allow sufficient time for the IDP applications to be processed. Citizens may continue to submit IDP applications by visiting licensing offices in person. Appointments can be booked online or by calling 3763 8080 to save queuing time. The Home Affairs Department announced that a new support service centre for ethnic minorities in Tuen Mun commenced operation today.
The department explained that the ONE Support Service Centre for Ethnic Minorities, operating under its funding grant, will provide a wide range of support services for ethnic minorities to enable their early integration into the community.
Such services include Cantonese and English language classes, after-school tutorial classes, dedicated programmes for ethnic minority youths, orientation and familiarisation programmes for newly arrived ethnic minorities, as well as integration activities, counselling and referral services.
The centre will also provide other services to help ethnic minorities in accessing public services, including Internet access and distribution of multilingual service guidebooks and leaflets on services provided by the Government and non-profit-making organisations.
The centre is located on the first floor of Esplanade Place at 101 Yip Wong Road and has a floor area of about 415 sq m. Except for public holidays, the centre operates six days a week from 9am to 9pm and closes on Tuesdays.
The new Tuen Mun centre will be jointly operated by the Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service and the New Home Association.
