Tung Chung restricted area set

The Government tonight made a restriction-testing declaration for Mei Yat House of Yat Tung (II) Estate in Tung Chung in view of a preliminary positive COVID-19 local case from an unknown source involving the L452R mutant strain.   The Centre for Health Protection said the case involves a 47-year-old female patient who has not received COVID-19 vaccination.   The patient developed symptoms including fever and consulted a private doctor yesterday. She also attended North Lantau Hospital's accident and emergency department on the same day.   Her deep throat saliva sample tested preliminary positive for the virus and carried the L452R mutant strain, but did not carry the N501Y and E484K mutant genes.   The patient works as an airline lounge staff at the Hong Kong International Airport and last went to work on August 14. Preliminary information revealed that she had no travel history during the incubation period and the case has been classified as a local one.   As the case involves a mutant strain which carries higher transmissibility, the Government decided to make a restriction-testing declaration for Mei Yat House in Yat Tung (II) Estate where the patient lives.   The declaration took effect from 7pm and aims to be finished at about 7am tomorrow. People in the restricted area are required to stay in their premises and undergo compulsory testing before 2am tomorrow.   Those who have undergone testing from August 14 to 16 and can provide an SMS notification through a mobile phone or related certification containing the test results do not need to be tested again.   According to the latest compulsory testing notice, people who had been at this building for more than two hours from July 25 to August 16 must undergo compulsory testing by August 18 even if they were not in the restricted area when the declaration took effect.   Moreover, the patient's workplace and the places she had visited during the incubation and infectious period will be included in the compulsory testing notice.

Railway settlement exceeds limit

The construction works of a relocation project in Kowloon have been suspended after a settlement monitoring checkpoint exceeded the limit, the Government said today.   The project relocates supporting operational facilities of Tsim Sha Tsui Fire Station Complex, Fire Services Club and other fire services accommodations to To Wah Road in Kowloon.   The Government explained that the readings recorded in a settlement monitoring checkpoint installed inside the railway tunnel between Kowloon Station and Olympic Station of the MTR Tung Chung Line had reached 20.27mm on September 7. The preset trigger level for works suspension is 20mm.   For the sake of prudence, the Mass Transit Railway Corporation suspended relevant works within the railway protection area on the same day.   The Buildings Department and the Architectural Services Department deployed staff to inspect the affected railway tunnel and confirmed that it is structurally safe.   The Electrical & Mechanical Services
