The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 3,172 additional locally acquired COVID-19 cases, of which 449 were identified through nucleic acid tests and 2,723 via rapid antigen tests. Separately, 111 imported cases were detected. Furthermore, seven residential care homes for the elderly and five for disabled people logged 13 cases involving their residents. The Hospital Authority reported that 20 patients passed away in public hospitals. According to a preliminary analysis, the cause of death for nine patients was related to COVID-19, while that of the remaining 11 patients was unrelated. It also registered eight more critical cases, bringing the number of patients in critical condition to 93. Separately, to align with the Government’s cancellation of issuing isolation orders from tomorrow, the authority will, starting from the same day, announce at 8.30am and 1pm the information of general out-patient clinics (GOPC) quota reserved for COVID-19
About 8,356,500 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to the public, with about 4,398,800 people receiving their first dose and around 3,957,700 getting their second dose.
Among those given the first dose of vaccines, about 1,595,900 people have received the Sinovac jab and about 2,802,900 people got the BioNTech one.
For the second dose, about 1,444,800 people have received the Sinovac vaccine, while about 2,512,900 people have been administered the BioNTech jab.
About 40,400 people received jabs under the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme today.
Around 2,700 people received their first dose of the Sinovac vaccine and around 7,300 people received their second dose.
For the BioNTech vaccine, about 8,800 people received their first dose and around 21,700 people got their second dose.
The overall percentage of people who received the Sinovac vaccine at community vaccination centres is about 94% while it is about 89% for the BioNTech one.
As of 8pm, about 700 people booked their first and second doses of the Sinovac vaccine online, while about 3,200 reserved their first and second doses of the BioNTech jab.
As of midnight, six people were sent to hospitals.
