Algernon Yau to visit bay area cities

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Algernon Yau will join a delegation this afternoon to visit Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Dongguan, the Government announced.   Organised by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the aim of the trip is to help delegates keep abreast of the latest development of the Greater Bay Area for better integration into the nation’s overall development.   Mr Yau will return to Hong Kong on March 23. Healthcare enters new chapter

Chief Executive Carrie Lam today said primary healthcare development has entered a new chapter under the efforts of the current-term Government.   Mrs Lam made the statement at the District Health Centre - New Journey in Primary Healthcare Ceremony, noting that she advocated in her first Policy Address in 2017 the setting up of District Health Centres (DHCs) that are operated in a brand new mode with a view to enhancing public awareness on preventive healthcare and personal health management through community networks.   To date, DHCs or DHC Expresses have started service in 14 districts. The DHCs will be extended to cover the remaining four districts of Wong Tai Sin, Yuen Long, Southern District and Tsuen Wan, in the next few months.   Mrs Lam noted that upon their presence in all 18 districts within this year, the DHCs and DHC Expresses will serve as the important hardware for promoting the collaboration of primary healthcare services.   She also pointed out that the Food & Health Bureau and the Steering Committee on Primary Healthcare Development had drawn up a framework on the recommendations and goals of the Primary Healthcare Blueprint.   The blueprint maps out the structural changes to the approach of the healthcare system necessitated to cope with the challenges in the decades ahead.   Mrs Lam said the current-term Government will submit relevant specific recommendations to the next-term Government for consideration to formulate an appropriate implementation plan.   Also at the ceremony, Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan said that the DHCs and DHC Expresses are supported by multi-disciplinary professional teams comprising nurses, allied health professionals, pharmacists, social workers and support staff.   Networks are well established by DHCs and DHC Expresses to connect with family doctors, Chinese medicine practitioners and allied health professionals in the districts.   Moreover, DHCs and DHC Expresses co-operate with the seven clusters of the Hospital Authority.   She called on the public to make good use of the various services including chronic disease management and rehabilitation provided by the DHCs and DHC Expresses to safeguard their own health in a preventive approach.   The ceremony is one of the celebration events of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

124 COVID-19 cases reported

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 124 additional COVID-19 cases. More cases were detected in Kwai Chung Estate. There are also more than 70 preliminary positive cases.   Among the newly reported cases, 33 are related to Kwai Chung Estate, bringing the total number of positive and preliminary positive cases in the estate to 276.   One more positive case was found after an earlier confirmed case occurred at Glory Court, Tsuen Wan Garden, both of them live in units 5 but on two different floors. The centre has co-ordinated with related government departments and conducted an inspection today.    It was preliminarily considered that vertical transmission of virus via pipes is involved.   The centre will issue quarantine orders to residents of unit 5 on all floors of the building who resided there during the incubation period of the relevant cases and transfer them to a quarantine facility.   As it is possible that virus might be ejected from the open
