The Environmental Protection Department said it does not tolerate concrete batching plants operating without a licence and will make every effort to stop any illegal operations. The department made the statement in response to media reports yesterday of a concrete batching plant at 20 Tung Yuen Street in Yau Tong continuing to operate without holding a valid Specified Process Licence (SPL). The department has been closely monitoring the operation of two plants, both owned by China Concrete. The other plant is at 22 Tung Yuen Street in Yau Tong. Regarding the plant at 20 Tung Yuen Street, the Air Pollution Control Appeal Board dismissed an appeal lodged by China Concrete against the department’s refusal of its application for renewal of an SPL for the plant on November 22. Under the Air Pollution Control (Specified Processes) Regulations, the plant’s SPL ceased to be valid with immediate effect and the department issued a letter requesting that all works be halte
The Education Bureau today announced that it will subsidise, through the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors, 1,310 places in 37 top-up degree (TUD) programmes of eight post-secondary institutions for the cohort to be admitted in the 2023-24 academic year.
As announced in the Chief Executive’s 2022 Policy Address, the scheme will be expanded in phases starting from the 2023-24 school year, covering TUD programmes for the first time.
These 37 designated TUD programmes fall under 10 disciplines identified as having keen manpower demand, including architecture and engineering, computer science, creative industries, financial technology, healthcare, insurance, logistics, sports and recreation, testing and certification, and tourism and hospitality.
In the 2023-24 academic year, the annual subsidy amount for laboratory-based TUD programmes will be $78,280, while for non-laboratory-based ones it will be $44,950.
The subsidy amounts are applicable to eligible new and current students.
For admission to the designated TUD programmes, students can apply directly to the institutions.
