CE cheers on HK athletes

Chief Executive John Lee cheered on the Hong Kong athletes taking part in various events at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou today.   Mr Lee went to games venues to watch events in which Hong Kong athletes were competing, including swimming, wushu and fencing, and extended his warmest congratulations to the athletes who won medals.   Noting that having the games in their own country is of great importance to Hong Kong athletes, Mr Lee said he was pleased to have the opportunity to watch Hong Kong competitors strive for excellence and demonstrate extraordinary capabilities.   He expressed his hope that Hong Kong athletes will continue to excel and unleash their potential to achieve outstanding results.   The Chief Executive earlier visited the Zhejiang Liaison Unit of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and encouraged its staff members to strive to serve both the people of Hong Kong and enterprises in Zhejiang.   Today’s activities also included a lunch with th

Tool added for tenancy applications

The Housing Bureau today announced that its Central & Unified Platform for Transitional Housing, referred to as “TH-E”, will be launched tomorrow.   Intended to facilitate online applications for transitional housing, the platform is easy to operate. Applicants can follow clear instructions to enter basic information such as their name, phone number and identity card number, and to select their preferred projects.   After submitting an application online, applicants will immediately receive an SMS confirmation containing a reference number for future enquiries about the progress of their application.   The platform will automatically refer applications to operating organisations for follow-up. Data collection, compilation and analysis capabilities will be added to the platform’s functionality in the future.   To cater to the needs of different users, applications can still be submitted by post, email or fax. Transport chief to visit Beijing

Secretary for Transport & Logistics Lam Sai-hung will depart for Beijing today to attend the Global Sustainable Transport Forum (2023), organised by the Ministry of Transport.   The seminar, due to be held from September 25 to 26, will bring together transport authorities and related businesses from various countries. It provides a platform for promoting global co-operation in the transport sector and implementing global development initiatives.   Mr Lam will share details of the progress and direction of Hong Kong’s smart mobility and smart logistics initiatives at a thematic session.   He will also hold a sideline meeting with leaders of the Ministry of Transport and visit a company engaged in research and development in the field of autonomous driving technology. http://dlvr.it/SwYrsr

HK rowers win gold medal

Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung today congratulated two Hong Kong athletes on winning a gold medal in the Rowing Men's Pair event at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou, the first gold won by the Hong Kong, China delegation at this year’s games.   Mr Yeung said in Hangzhou that Lam San-tung and Wong Wai-chun had given their best and shown the full extent of their talent.   “Having witnessed their triumph, I could feel (the) athletes’ concentration during competition and their joy after winning,” he said. “With the Hong Kong, China delegation getting off to a flying start, I wish Hong Kong athletes (can) continue to shine in the Hangzhou Asian Games.”   Mr Yeung also extended his congratulations to wushu athlete Chen Suijin on winning a bronze medal in the Women's Taijiquan & Taijijian All-Round event.   He said: "We are proud of her, who earned the well-deserved medal with excellent skills.” http://dlvr.it/SwYrrp

FS visits London's Elizabeth line

Financial Secretary Paul Chan yesterday visited Paddington Station to better understand the operation of London's Elizabeth line, a rail link run by an MTR Corporation subsidiary which recently won an award for its service on the line.   The Elizabeth line, fully operational since May 2022, spans a 128-km route encompassing 41 stations, and has a weekly patronage of 4 million passengers. It is run by MTR Elizabeth line (MTREL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the MTR Corporation.   In recognition of its excellent performance in operating the line, MTREL was named Passenger Operator of the Year 2023 in the UK's National Rail Awards.   Mr Chan said that public organisations in Hong Kong are regularly invited to share their management experience and expertise, and to operate important transport infrastructure projects, in other markets. SB holds youth leadership forum

The annual review of the Security Bureau Youth Uniformed Group Leaders Forum was held today, with Acting Chief Executive Chan Kwok-ki giving a speech.   Mr Chan reported that the forum had organised nearly 20 activities over the past year, including courses and training camps run by the bureau’s disciplined services and auxiliary services, and seminars on the country’s Constitution, the Basic Law and the Hong Kong National Security Law. Tung Chung site to be sold

A Tung Chung site in the 2023-24 Land Sale Programme will be sold by public tender from September 29, the Lands Department announced today.   Designated for private residential purposes, Tung Chung Town Lot No. 55 at Area 106B has a site area of about 10,648 sq m with a minimum gross floor area of 22,361 sq m and a maximum gross floor area of 37,268 sq m.   The tender invitation for the lot will close on October 27.   Relevant land sale documents will be available on the department’s website from September 29. http://dlvr.it/SwVVt6
