Rural voter registration opens

The 2024 voter registration campaign for the Rural Representative Election opened today and the Home Affairs Department called on those eligible to sign up by June 16.   The department explained that there are three types of rural representatives - Indigenous Inhabitant Representatives, Resident Representatives and Kaifong Representatives.   Indigenous Inhabitant Representatives are returned by indigenous inhabitants, their spouses or surviving spouses of an indigenous village or composite indigenous village.   Resident Representatives are returned by both indigenous and non-indigenous inhabitants residing in an existing village.   Kaifong Representatives are returned by Cheung Chau or Peng Chau residents.   Voter registration for the Indigenous Inhabitant Representative Election is open to indigenous inhabitants, their spouses or surviving spouses, aged 18 or above and holding recognised identity documents.   Registration for the Resident Representative and Kai

Xia Baolong to give video speech

US, Canada remarks condemned

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today strongly condemned the US and Canada for smearing the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance under the pretext of foreign travel advice updates.   The so-called travel advice claimed that the risks of travelling to Hong Kong would increase after the ordinance comes into effect.   Pointing out that it is a political manoeuvre with fact-twisting and scaremongering remarks to spread panic, the Hong Kong SAR Government urged the US and Canada to stop their attempts to interfere in Hong Kong safeguarding national security in accordance with the law.   The Hong Kong SAR Government said that the offences endangering national security stipulated in the ordinance precisely target acts endangering national security, and define the elements and penalties of the offences with clarity. Seamless connectivity for villages

People usually find rural life a good way to kick back and spend time at a leisurely pace. But to keep up with the pace of modern technology, the copper-based network villagers once relied on for basic telecommunications services has fallen short.   This is why the Government implemented the the Subsidy Scheme to Extend Fibre-based Networks to Villages in Remote Areas that provides telecommunications companies with financial incentives to encourage the extension of fibre-based networks to cover 235 villages in the New Territories and outlying islands. Police school open day held

HK says farewell to Xuelong 2

The nation’s first domestically built Antarctic research icebreaker, Xuelong 2, has completed a five-day visit to Hong Kong and began its return journey to Shanghai this afternoon.   A farewell ceremony was held at Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui, where Under Secretary for Environment & Ecology Diane Wong and the committee that organised the visit led the farewells for Xuelong 2 and its crew, the 40th Chinese Antarctic scientific expedition team.   The chairman of the organising committee, Ma Fung-kwok, expressed his deep satisfaction with the visit. He emphasised that it had not only fostered a genuine interest among citizens in polar research but had also raised awareness about the pressing issue of climate change.   Looking ahead, the organising committee is already in discussions with relevant departments to explore opportunities for Hong Kong scholars and students to participate in future scientific expeditions, particularly in the field of polar research.   Du
